Why is this training important?
There are approximately 850,000 people in the United Kingdom who have some form of dementia, with numbers expected to rise above one million by 2025. This course is designed for anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of dementia and how to apply the principles of ‘person-centred dementia care’.
Who is it for? All employees who support individuals with dementia within a health or social care setting and those who support a person in their own home. Those who complete the course will have a better understanding of the condition, increasing their confidence and enabling them to be competent when supporting people with dementia.
What are the benefits of doing this course?
The programme aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the common types of dementia and their causes. It will help develop an awareness of how the actions of others can affect individuals with dementia and provides delegates tools to enable them to deliver a person-centred approach to dementia care and support.

How long is the course?
The course is initially a one day workshop, starting at 0930 and finishing at 1630. Delegates will then receive a workbook and on-line tutor support to enable completion.
Are there any entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements, but as the assessment is carried out in the form of a workbook, a basic level of English will be required.
How is the course assessed?
On completion of the HABC workbook, this can be completed verbally but we need to be aware of this before the start of the course.
When will I know if I have passed?
You will be given feedback from your assessor within 2 weeks of receipt of you completed workbook. This will let you know if you have met all the knowledge requirements or you need to add extra information.
Do I need to bring anything?
You will need proof of identification such as passport, driving licence or a signed bank card. This is a requirement of the Awarding Body HABC, Hiighfield Awarding Body for Compliance.
We supply tea, coffee and biscuits but not lunch. There is an on-site cafe which provides hot and cold meals, drinks and extremely good home made cakes!
What is the cost?
The cost is £150 (plus VAT) per person, £120 can be claimed through Workforce Development Funding via Suffolk Brokerage on production of the certificate – please ask us for more details. Group discounts are available for 4 or more people.
