Paediatric First Aid 


The Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid has been developed to meet the first aid training requirements set out by The Practice Guidance in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for Ofsted regulated child care settings. 


Who need this qualification? 

The Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid is primarily aimed at those working in child care settings, but it will also be useful for anyone with a responsibility for caring for infants and children.



This is a two unit sward, comprising of: 

Unit 1 Paediatric Emergency First Aid

This unit  introduces the candidate to:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • The importance of accurate incident reporting
  • First Aid equipment and its safe use
  • The need to minimise the risk of infection
  • The importance of assessing an incident
  • Undertaking a primary survey
  • When and how to call for help


Unit 2 Managing Paediatric Illness Injury

This unit introduces the candidate to:

  • Medical conditions and sudden illness
  • The effects of extreme heat and cold
  • Suspected fractures and dislocations
  • Head and back injuries
  • Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Electric shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning bites and stings
