HABC Level 2 Award in

Paediatric First Aid 


Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid has been developed to meet the first aid training requirements set out by The Practice Guidance in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for Ofsted- regulated child care settings.


Who need this qualification? 

The Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid is primarily aimed at those working in child- care settings, but it will also be useful for any more with a responsibility for caring for infants and children.  


This is a two unit award, comprising of:

Unit 1 Paediatric Emergency First Aid

This unit introduces the candidate to:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • The importance of accurate incident reporting
  • First Aid equipment and its safe use
  • The need to minimise the risk of infection
  • The importance of assess an incident
  • Undertaking a primary survey
  • When and how to call for help


Unit 2 Managing Paediatric Illness Injury

This unit introduces the candidate to:

  • Medical conditions and sudden illness
  • The effects of extreme heat and cold
  • Suspected fractures and dislocations
  • Head and back injuries
  • Conditions affecting the eye, ears and nose
  • Electric shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning bites and stings
